Welcome to the Eastern Cape Communication Forum

The ECCF is a non-profit organisation that works with local independent media in the Eastern Cape. There are about 40 independent publications from weekly to monthly and about 20 licensed newspapers from the Eastern Cape Province. ECCF acknowledges the role that community media plays in our communities and understands the challenges the sector faces. Through its capacity building interventions it is able to provide support to strengthen the sector. The ECCF is in partnership with Walter Sisulu University.

The ECCF has relationships with all the independent publications and licensed radio stations in the province and communicates regularly with its members. The organisation is aware of the challenges and successes of the local media sector in the Eastern Cape. Through on-site visits we can see the environment local media works in and communicate with the management and reporters to understand the newspaper or radio station better.

We have established meaningful partnerships with relevant civil society organisations (CSO) that further the interest of local independent media. Through relationships with CSOs, the ECCF keeps its ear to the ground and has a good understanding of the needs of the communities. One of the main concerns is that citizens are not actively involved in their own development. The main focus of ECCF is on developing local media in order to have informed citizens in the province.
